When there are days when you don't feel like exercising or feel like indulging or skipping your medication, what keeps you going?

I used to have high HbA1c readings of up to 10% many years ago but have managed to keep it below 6.7% since 2011. There are many times when I don't feel like exercising or feel like indulging in certain "illegal" foods (durians, waffle ice creams, fried chicken, etc) but I have never thought of skipping my medications. I will give in to my indulgences once in a while but always with the knowledge that I have to "get back in line" after that. The satisfaction that I can "let go" occasionally is also a treat for me. Also, knowing that if I keep to a disciplined lifestyle, I will keep any diabetic complications at bay for a longer time. I have relatives & friends who are stubborn & refuse to listen to good advice by doctors or DNEs. They are now suffering from complications & it's not only them who are suffering but their immediate family members. I don't wish to impose or inconvenience my family members as I have seen first hand the agony that family members suffer along with the patient

Obviously, there are those days and some times you win the battle to overcome the temptations but not always. However, such days cannot become a norm. The resolve has to be strong. I would recommend that rather than over indulgence, one should keep the diet in check.
