My friend's father has Parkinson's. He has hallucinations. Is that because of Parkinson's? Or is it due to any other reason

Dear Amit,
Hallucination is a well - established symptom of Parkinson's. If Parkinson's is the established cause, it could be a symptom of the condition itself or a side effect of the Parkinson's medication.
It would be ideal to consult your neurologist in order to confirm the cause, so appropriate action can be taken.
In the meanwhile, as a caregiver you may reassure the individual that he is experiencing a symptom, at the same time taking care to not dismiss or argue with the individuals report.
Moreover, ensure that his environment is secure and peaceful. Avoid the presence of objects around the individual that could cause harm to himself or others.
Try to distract the individual by involving them in another activity.

An article on the same has been featured in MOVEMENT (issue 16, September 2015), PDMDS' informational newsletter.
