Breaking Barriers Through Play – Policy Guidelines and Technical Manual on Developing Inclusive Play Spaces

Evolved out of consultations with children with and without disabilities, their caregivers and access experts; and through the extensive on-the-ground experience of Kilikili, Breaking Barriers Through Play is a guidebook on developing an Inclusive play space. An inclusive play space is a play space that welcomes children of all abilities, enabling them to play together, building a sense of mutual understanding and respect for diversity.

The book lists the guidelines for developing an inclusive play space. It also supplements the guidelines with a How-To – a detailed description of the various inclusive play equipments, provided with technical drawings and specifications along with their developmental benefits.

The book will help all government and other authorities vested with the powers to create and develop play spaces for children – Municipal and Urban Development authorities, principals of schools etc. It will also be useful for members of civil society – parents’ groups, resident associations, philanthropic groups, corporate organisations and the like – to lobby for such facilities from the authorities, oversee the development of or actually develop inclusive spaces.

Kilikili has kindly given us a copy of the e-book that you can download for free from link below.
