Gastritis is an irritation in the stomach as it is intolerant of different kinds of food. Nutritionist Kohila Govindaraju tries to help matters by suggesting some simple recipes for light and digestible food which are easy on the stomach.

It is important to see that the diet for gastritis does not include food like whole milk, garlic, chilli, coffee, tea, and other carbonated drinks that irritate the stomach wall. 

Gastritis diet should focus on whole grains, fruits, vegetables, fat-free dairy, lean meats and nuts. The biochemicals in fruits and vegetables, like beta carotene in carrot, sulphur in cauliflower, pectin in apple (no skin, for it irritates the stomach wall), help protect the inner lining of the stomach.

Gastritis can lead to Acid Reflux. So these simple recipes help prevent Acid Reflux

Here are 3 simple recipes for Gastritis:

1. Rice, green bean, peanut and vegetable porridge

Ingredients:

  • Rice (cooked) ½ cup (75g)
  • Green bean (soaked) 1tblsp (13g)
  • Peanut (raw) 20g
  • Carrot chopped 4tbsp (50g)
  • Cauliflower chopped 4tbsp (50g)
  • Salt a dash (0.4g)

Method:

Cook green beans, peanut, carrot and cauliflower.

Mix cooked rice with ½ cup of water and bring to boil. Stir slowly until the rice gets soft, add the cooked beans, peanut, carrot, cauliflower and dash salt over.

2. Chicken Barley soup

Ingredients:

  • Pearl barley, cooked ½ cup (80g)
  • Chicken Breast pieces, Skinless boneless 30z (85g)
  • Carrot, chopped 50g (4tbsp)
  • Broccoli, chopped ½ cup (44g)
  • Salt 0.4g (a dash)

Method:

In a heavy pot cook the chicken. Add barley, carrot, and broccoli. Cover, reduce the heat and cook for 5 minutes. Add salt and serve.

3. Soymilk, banana, yogurt smoothie

Ingredients:

  • Soymilk, unsweetened 200ml
  • Yogurt, Greek, plain, low-fat 100g
  • Banana, small 6” (15.24cm/ 81g)
  • Honey 1tbsp (21g)

 

Method:

Combine all ingredients in blender, blend smooth and serve.
