Join us tomorrow Friday 30th August 2019 for an insightful session where we discuss the role of self advocacy and self determination among persons with disabilities. How did they push the barriers to become independent and create possibilities?

Topic

People tend to develop their personalities from the different things that they get to know and do in their lives, which may also have an impact from time to time. People develop their personalities at all ages and it is a constant shift for every individual throughout his / her life. People may develop strong personalities based on the approach that society creates around them.

For Persons with Disabilities, the following aspects may seem slightly different and many times difficult when compared to persons without Disabilities:

Self Esteem
- To mould one's self esteem,
- develop confidence in oneself and life,
- acceptance of ones Disability,
- readiness to take support and creat support circles, as well as refuse support when not required

Self advocacy
- develop decision making skills,
- explore external guidance to support while making decisions for oneself,
- to have a will to break barriers and have a positive attitude towards life,
- willingness to learn more, explore life, take risks and also being thoughtful about one's safe guards.

The above may also vary to a great extent for persons who aquired Disability at a later stage of life may be in his/her teen age or middle age or even aquiring Disability due to old age.
