A video case study of Om Pawar, a young boy who is non verbal and has intellectual disability and how he has benefited from multi-disciplinary interventions including digital technologies and animal assisted therapy.

Children on the Autism Spectrum struggle with social communication challenges and challenging repetitive behaviours. For children like Om who have Intellectual Disability and who are on the Autism Spectrum, life is that much harder.

Om's journey has been fraught with obstacles, from being completely non-verbal, being unable to sit in one place and uncontrollable temper tantrums. He is a visual learner and has come a long way with the help of medication, occupational therapy, and innovative therapies including digital literacy and animal therapy.

Sandhya Ukkalkar, Principal of the Jai Vakeel Autism Centre is a strong believer of "None of us are included until all of us are included" and says "We piloted the Digital learning program where students were taught their curriculum via games and learning software on iPad as we wanted to enhance learning and widen their horizons."

Since the inception of the Jai Vakeel Autism Center in 1998, 154 children with Autism Spectrum Disorder have been mainstreamed in our school. Om is one of the individuals who has been impacted by Jai Vakeel over these 74 years. Come celebrate with us as we look forward our Platinum Jubilee - Celebrating 75 Years of Jai Vakeel.
