There is a need for more books on dementia, especially those that explain dementia to children in easy to understand terms. Vidya Shenoy's Remember Those Who Cannot Remember, an illustrated book is a much needed book.

Vidya Shenoy has written a book that explains some aspects of dementia to children and how they can engage with a person wth dementia. Written in the form of a story with a grandmother explaining to her two grandchildren about how dementia is affecting their grandfather. Beautifully illustrated by Sreedevi Jyothis (Noel).

When we asked Vidya why she wrote the book, she said; "I am passionate about the cause of Alzheimer’s and dementia! My experience and learning at the Dementia DayCare, SMRITI VISHVAM: Universe of Memory in Mumbai that I founded, is immense. We have had many intergenerational bonding sessions and puppet shows which have had positive effects on our ‘family’. I have held puppet shows at Conferences, on the lines of this storybook, in Kolkota and Jakarta, responses of which were overwhelming. Therefore, I thought why not write a story book for children. Besides I am very keen that children (who we need to catch young) need to be nurtured, taught, be made aware and, further, sensitised on this neurological disorder. This would help them be more patient and empathetic to elders especially those living with dementia. Children also need to be told that little things in life make a big difference to elders who normally feel lonely or neglected. That even spending time with their grandparents or elders, small acts of kindness, even giving them attention or expressing love goes a long way to uplift their spirits eventually leading them to lead a happy and better quality of life."
