Question received from a caregiver:

My mother in law is 69 yrs old. Just started using adult diapers (L/XL Premium pullups by Dignity). She is also going through treatment for kidney disease (not on dialysis) and have many health complications. She wears diaper from 10 pm to 7 am which is overflowing. What is the solution

This is a common problem, and people experiment a lot to find what works for them. Usually, this means trying different brands, size, and whether heavy or normal, asking around, but I've found that different families have different experiences - one family may be really happy with one brand, another finds it awful.

Reasons of overflow are usually inappropriate diaper, overload (the diaper is just too full) and poor fitting. 9 hours is a long time, and probably she has many "outputs" during this. So you can consider a check-and-change somewhere midway (like if turning her to avoid bedsores), and choose a heavy-duty diaper anyway.

Please be very careful of the fit. A slightly loose diaper will leak, no matter how good the diaper. This is often the most ignored aspect.

Other suggestions: use underpads on the bed and plastic sheets under the bedsheet to reduce cleanup work. Create an arrangement where diaper change (esp. if done at night) is easy. Hope this helps

Have used FRIENDS diaper(brand) for my mom XL size Using correct size is important n also how you are wearing it I never had problem of leakage except if my ayah kept it for more than 10 hours and sometimes urination also varies and that need to be monitored This diapers clearly shows signs if they are full which you can also make out like it becomes heavy from the front n changes from white to yellowish
