PatientsEngage Privacy Policy

At PatientsEngage we collect different types of information about visitors to, and users of, our website for the following reasons:

  1. to help us monitor and improve the services we offer to you
  2. to sell advertising space on our website
  3. with your consent, to offer and market value added services to individual users
  4. to sell de-identified user analytics to organisations, such as life science organisations, non-profits, hospitals and research organisations
  5. to target survey questionnaires to those who are interested in participating

This privacy policy does not apply to PatientsEngage’s employee records.

PatientsEngage Personal Data Collection, Use and Disclosure

Personal data you give to us

‘Personal data’ means data, whether true or not, about an individual who can be identified:

  • from that data or
  • from that data and other information to which we have or are likely to have access

We collect personal data when you submit it to us, including when you register to join the community discussions, to load content on the site and to participate in surveys.

The mandatory personal data we collect is:

  • User category (for example, Patient/Friends and Family or Doctor
  • if you are in the Patient/Friends and Family category, a screen name that you nominate (this allows you to maintain your privacy when you participate in discussions)
  • Email address
  • Profile photo if logged in through Facebook
  • Gender
  • Name
  • Country of residence

for the purpose of our users participating in forums on our website

We also ask optional questions, being:

  • Preferred language
  • Date of birth
  • City of residence
  • Street address and Phone number

for the purpose of understanding our user profiles and enabling us to offer any location-based value added services

We also give you the option of receiving email updates on all forum activities and/or of subscribing (free of charge) to our newsletter.

We carry out regular surveys to get feedback and understand how to serve you better; on behalf of our partners like life science companies, non-profits, hospitals and research organisations.  The surveys are optional and you can choose to not respond to them.  A survey will be one of two kinds: first, a survey where we de-identify the data that is shared with the above companies, and, second, a specific focus group survey.  If a survey is a specific focus group survey, we will clearly let you know before you participate in the survey.

User registration

The minimum information we need to register you as a user of our website is an email address, screen name, a password, name, gender and country of residence.  The other information helps us provide you with tailored content and localized value added services.  We will ask further questions on communities you want to join, if you want to subscribe to newsletters, and if you want to participate in surveys.  We recommend you answer those questions to enhance your participation in the community forums, sharing your experience and getting invited to participate in surveys.

If you are a patient we ask you to share information about your condition (optional) and you can choose the level you would like to share with us. If you are a caregiver, we also ask some medical information about the patients you care for (optional again). These will allow us to partner with the right type of organisations and like minded people and share latest information about dealing with those conditions so that you find the site useful and your experience on the site is enhanced.

User log in through Facebook/ Meta

When you log in through Facebook, we collect your name, profile picture and email address. You will need to input the additional information (mentioned above in the personal data section) when you choose to register. The other information helps us provide you with tailored content and localized value added services.  We will ask further questions on communities you want to join, if you want to subscribe to newsletters, and if you want to participate in surveys.  We recommend you answer those questions to enhance your participation in the community forums, sharing your experience and getting invited to participate in surveys.

Information we collect automatically

We automatically collect data about your usage of our website, but that data is not ‘personal data’ because it does not identify you.  This includes your IP address, browser type, operating geography, pages visited and links clicked.

If you access our website from a mobile or other device, we may collect a unique device identifier assigned to that device.

This information is used to personalise your experience on our website and the websites of our third party partners as it enables us to display relevant content, services.  It also enables us to determine the preferences of the groups and communities at an aggregated level and allows us to determine new content that would likely be of interest to you.

Updating your personal data

By clicking the “My Account” tab on our website you are allowed to update your personal data and your preferences. We offer an Edit button on the View page where you can update your personal data at any time and change your email subscriptions. Under the change password option, you can reset your password. 

We also offer a way to update your permissions information.  Simply click on the “Permissions” tab under “My account” at the top of the page. 

Disclosure of your personal data by PatientsEngage

We will not share your personal data with anyone for marketing or any other purposes.

We may offer through our website third party services, such as hospital information, home care, healthcare equipment providers, and other healthcare related services.  Any personal data that is collected by us when you access a third party service is processed under this Privacy Policy.  Information collected by third party operators themselves will be governed by their own policies.

We may use service providers to help us run our website or the value added services that we provide through our website, some of whom may be based outside Singapore and outside other jurisdictions with comparable data protection laws.  In that case, any third parties that access your personal data in the course of providing services on our behalf are subject to strict contractual restrictions to ensure that your data is protected and in compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act.

Use of cookies

Cookies are small pieces of data stored on the web browser on your computer.  Our website and associated websites (including those you reach by clicking on advertising) may store cookies on your web browser.  We use cookies for the reasons explained below.

We use anonymous cookies for statistical purposes to track how many unique users we have and how often they visit our website.

We collect data about which of our website pages are most frequently visited and by which types of users (that is, registered users and other users) from which countries.

We use registration cookies to track if registered users are logged in to our website.  This allows you to access services that require registration, such as commenting on articles.  You must enable us to place cookies on your computer to register and use our services that require registration.

We use cookies with privacy compliant third parties to collect anonymous user information.  These third party cookies (flash and non-flash) and web beacons are used for article recommendations, social sharing and other similar services and collect information such as your IP address, browser type, operating geography and pages visited.

You can turn cookies off, but if you do this, you may not be able to use some services on our website.  You will however still be able to view content.

Our website may contain contextual affiliate links from which we may earn revenue.  Our articles are never influenced by advertisers or affiliates, nor are they written for the purpose of promoting a product, except when clearly branded as a ‘sponsored feature’ or ‘advertisement feature’ or ‘sponsor’s content’.

How we keep your personal data secure

We hold your personal data in electronic files.  We use third party information system providers who may store or have access to your personal data.

Legal information

We reserve the right to access and disclose personal data to comply with applicable laws and lawful government requests, to operate our systems properly and to protect both ourselves and users of our website. 

Access to, and information about, your personal data

If you would like to obtain a copy of your personal data that we hold, please go to “My Account” to view the personal data you have provided to us in connection with your registration on our website.

if you would like to know the purposes for which we have, or may have, used or disclosed your personal data in the previous twelve months or if you have any questions regarding our use of your personal data, please contact our Data Protection at by emailing patients.engage@patientsengage.com.  We will provide you with information about the way we have, or may have, used or disclosed it within the previous year as soon as reasonably possible after your request.  In some circumstances, however, the PDPA does not require us to give you information about how we have, or may have, used your personal data within the year before your request.  Please contact our Data Protection Officer if you would like to know about these circumstances.

If you would like to correct your personal data that we hold please Go to “My Account” and choose whatever tabs you would like to Edit.

Data deletion request

If you would like to have your data deleted from the platform, please email us at patients.engage@patientsengage.com with the subject Data Deletion Request and we will respond to your request for data deletion.   

Also, below are Data Deletion Instructions if you want to remove the connection of your Facebook account and PatientsEngage.

  1. Go to your Facebook Account’s Setting & Privacy. Click “Settings”
  2. Look for “Apps and Websites” and you will see all of the apps and websites you linked with your Facebook.
  3. Search and Click “PatientsEngage” in the search bar.
  4. Scroll and click “Remove”.

Changes to our privacy policy

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post the changes here.  Where the changes are significant, we may also decide to email all our registered users with the new details.  Where required by law, we will obtain your consent before making these changes.
