Hi my mom has Parkinson since 22 years. She has chondromalacia too, cartilage damage in the knee. We are taking the surgery route for her - knee join replacement in her left leg. She also experiences dyskenesia and freezing. Are there any risk and complication that needs to be considered during and post the surgery.

hi Konica,

Sorry to hear about your mom. Risk and complication for any surgery for a person with a chronic condition should take into account patient's current state of health, ability to undergo general anesthesia, post surgical rehabilitation, hospital stays and ultimately benefit to quality of life post surgery. While TKA is a common procedure that can relieve pain and stiffness, as a  person wit Parkinson's you will need to weight the benefits vs risk especially since motor symptoms of Parkinson’s can increase the likelihood of complications after surgery.

It may be advisable to seek a 2nd opinion.

I hope this was helpful.
