The A word is a 6 part BBC series that premiered in March 2016 and places autism at the centre of the narrative and honestly portrays the impact on the family.

Its not perfect and while it has got a lot of positive reviews, there is also a feeling that it should have delved deeper.

Maveen Pereira, a mother of a child with autism recommends it: "Yes I have seen the A Word.  It is a well made series and has done a good job to raise awareness about autism and the impact on families and relationships, the struggles families face in facing the truth, and in many cases they see this as an embarrassment that they would rather forget.  I think the theme was a little dramatised with the troubles faced by the individuals in the extended family which was a little distracting from the main theme.

The other missing bit was the opportunity to create a little more awareness that it is not the end of the world and there is help available. But overall it was good."

It is scheduled to be aired in the US this summer. And hopefully it will also make its way to Asia soon.
