I would like to get opinions if glucosamine is effective in treating some arthritic symptoms.  Have been taking it for some time for my knee and I would like hear from other people who might be taking it too for arthritis.

According to Dr. Bhuvaneswari, patients find it quite effective - it reduces the need for analgesic / anti inflammatory agents considerably. It seems to particularly benefit vegetarians . It needs to be taken regularly for continued effect.

Several studies have shown that glucosamine sulphate taken orally is effective in providing relief for patients with osteoarthritis. It has also been seen to reduce pain especially in the knee joints. The role of glucosamine is to replace lost cartilage due to arthritis. Results may take anywhere between 6 to 12 weeks when taken daily. Exact doses depends on the condition and must be recommended by your physician.

After taking glucosamine for 3-4 months, the pain in my knee has subsided. That being said, I have not been to the doctor to do another MRI of my knee so I do not know if any cartilage has been replaced. I will continue to monitor the situation to see if the pain comes back.
