Aarshia on the left a young Indian black haired spectacled girl with Down Syndrome in a purple dress and on the right her brother Aaryamann a young Indian teen boy with black hair in a purple kurta and white pyjamas

As part of our Raksha Bandhan series, Aaryamann and Aarshia share nuggets of what makes their sibling relationship as special and adorable as any other brother-sister relationship.

Aarshia,11 is a sprightly young girl who has also starred in an Indo-Australian film on Down Syndrome, directed by Onir  "Raising The Bar

Aaryamann, 16  is a football and math enthusiast. In spite of being a brother of a girl with special needs, he doesn't give her any special privileges and treats her like his typical little sister, a unique bond which Aarshia reciprocates.

What games do you play together?

Aarshia: I play computer games, pictureka, life, ludo and sometimes pillow fight with my bhaiya.

Aaryamann: My sister Aarshia and I rarely play sports together, because of how varied our tastes are. We play a couple board games like Pictureka and snakes and ladders though. But on the computer, the two of us play a lot of games - FIFA, GTA, Rocket League, Counter Strike and what not. All the games I grew up playing, she picked up as well, which is lucky for me cause I get to teach her everything I learnt playing these games.

How often do you both fight? What do you fight about mostly?

Aarshia: Sometimes I fight with bhaiya because he is naughty.

Aaryamann: Aarshia and I don't fight a lot, and when we do, it's always about the one issue that bothers both of us, and is incredibly close to our hearts: food. A battle of Chicken Kebab vs Dominos Pizza is the only fighting the two of us actively engage in. Other than the occasional hair pulling.

What is the most mischievous thing you have done that has annoyed your bro/sis?

Aarshia: I complain about bhaiya to mom.

What about your bro/sis annoys you most?

Aaryamann: Sometimes, my sister gives mom a detailed analysis of my entire day and activities. Whenever I turn my laptop on, she's running to her shouting "Mamma, bhaiya roz roz laptop kyu?" or "Mamma, bhaiya eat Uncle Chips, dekho" It slightly annoys me, but it also makes for great comedy and that's all that matters.

Do you get jealous that your brother/sister receives more attention?

Aaryamann: I'm not really jealous that my sister gets more attention; majorly because I really don't like attention and would rather be by myself. And so, her wanting attention pays off for me, as I get to do my work by my own self while she's busy showing mom her new book or the drawing she made in class.

The best gift you got from your brother

Aarshia: Bhaiya gets many things for me like ice cream, chocolate, chips, candy,
