There is a huge need for adaptive clothing for persons with disabilities, the elderly and those who may experience specific challenges while dressing. Ekansh Trust is creating a catalogue of designs that are free to use. Please do give credit to them.

Adaptive clothing is clothing specially designed for people with physical disabilities, the elderly, and the infirm who may experience difficulty dressing. It can be because they do not have the required range of motion or the ability to deal with things like buttons, zippers. The idea is to enable people with any degree of disability or limited movement to dress independently or to help carers assist them with minimal effort.

Anita Iyer, founder Ekansh Trust is working with aspiring and practising garment and fashion designers to recognise diverse needs and create designs that are freely available for people to use.

They are generously allowing people to copy and use the designs for free. Either take a screenshot of the slides and expand,  or use the gallery below the slides. They realize that while the designs may not be useful exactly as they are, you can pick and choose elements from different designs that you think will work for you, print the pictures and show them to your tailor who can then create your own adaptive garment.

You can find designs for men and women of different age groups - from young to senior citizens.  based on specific conditions, or disabilities or mobility challenges.  They cover the gamut of people who need limited assistance to people with paralysis.  People with conditions like arthritis, cerebral palsy, parkinsons or frozen shoulder. The designs include inner wear like bras, camisoles, vests and underwear. As well as dresses, trousers and leggings, shirts and tops.  They also cover people using disability aids like crutches, braces and wheelchair.
