2. The posture helps to massage the abdomen and the digestive system.

3. It is believed to prevent and manage diabetes.

4. It massages the pelvis and the reproductive organs.

5. It relieves anger and tension, inducing tranquillity.

6. It develops mental peace.

Contraindications

Those suffering from high blood pressure should not hold the pose for long.
People with back pain, knee pain and ankle pain should avoid this position.

Modification

Those who are unable to sit in Vajrasana due to pain in ankles and knees can sit on a chair. Place feet on the ground and perform the rest of the posture as detailed in ‘The Posture’.

The Posture

1. Sit in Vajrasana (see picture 1)

2. Make fists of the palms, keeping thumbs folded under the fingers. Place the fists on each side of the navel.

3. Inhale deeply. While exhaling bend forward completely from the lower back. Lower the head to the ground and relax the elbows. Ensure that the hips remain on the heels and that they do not rise.

4. Hold the position for five to seven slow breaths without the slightest strain.

5. While coming back, first bring elbows close to the body, raise the head, look in front and then straighten the back. Straighten the arms. Straighten the legs to release Vajrasana.
