Temporary spikes of blood sugar levels after a meal are common even in non-diabetic people. This spike usually comes back to normal in a few hours. I would ask your doctor how often you should be monitoring your blood sugar. Frequency of monitoring usually depends on the type of diabetes. If blood sugar levels continue to stay higher than 140 even after 2 hours post-meal, I would inform your doctor or Endocrinologist about it. It may require increased dosage, diet change etc.

A blood sugar level of 150 (8.3mmol) after meals is not unusual. What is concerning is your morning fasting levels are elevated 125 (7mmol). The morning fastings levels are often not related to food or diet. You can even try to experiment.Do a finger prick before you go to sleep and another one the next morning. Chances are you might be surprised why you did not eat anything while sleeping and the morning levels are higher than the night before. There is only 2 ways to lower fasting sugar levels; losing weight and increasing your level of exercise. However with progression of diabetes, sometimes rising morning BGL's is inevitable. The Glycomet that your doctor prescribed has metformin as the active ingredient. It specifically targets and lowers morning sugar levels.
