A great alternative to meat cutlets, especially if you are trudging your way to vegetarianism. These cutlets can be eaten by themselves or as a patty in a burger. Have them on a winter evening with cream cottage cheese and go light on the dinner!

Red Beans Cutlets (Makes 8 - 10)
Ingredients

Red beans – 1 cup
Raw bananas – 2 (cooked)
Bread crumbs – 3 tbsps
Onions – 1
Green Chillies – 2
Ginger – 1 inch piece (grated)
Garlic – ¼ tsp (minced)
Pepper – ¼ tsp
Salt to taste
Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
Sesame seeds - 1 tbsp to garish

Method

  • Wash and soak the red beans overnight or at least for 6-8 hours.
  • Pressure cook with adequate water until cooked. Cool the beans once done.
  • Cook raw bananas, then cool. Cut into big pieces.
  • Put the ingredients in a chopper. First add onion, ginger, garlic, chillies, seasoning and other spices in the chopper, followed by beans and raw banana. Blend until the paste and spices are well mixed.
  • Remove to a bowl. Add bread crumbs and mix well.
  • Divide the dough in to equal parts to form flat patties.
  • Heat a skillet. Drizzle some oil on it. Place the flat patty discs on the hot skillet. Sprinkle some sesame seeds on top.
  • Cook on medium flame. Turn them after 5 mins and cook on the other side for another 5 mins.
  • Serve these cutlets hot with cream cottage cheese and dill leaves dip or tomato ketchup.
